Common Sense

Common Sense

I am just wondering if anyone is as upset by the recent turn of events as I am.  It seems that everyone has been labled a Republican, Democrat, feminist, conservative, Libertarian, etc....  What ever happened to common sense?  We are just about to elect a new President and yet no one seems to be asking these questions.  Why aren't we trying to find common ground to find a solution that won't completely bankrupt my children and most likely my grandchildren?  McCain seems to think that any woman will do so he picks Palin who has very little experience or do we choose Obama who also has very little experience.  I am in a quandry and I am tired of lables. I hope that there is someone else out there that feels they are for common sense

Here is what I propose that we don't concentrate on:

1.Sexual orientation.  Since when was it any of our business anyway?

2. Sex: we spend too much time worring about someone else's sex life when we should worry about our own.

3. Religion: stop worrying about what other people believe and concentrate on what you have in common.  Chances are that there will be more in common than you thought.

Finally here is what we should concentrate on in our communites and nationwide:

1. Recycle as much as you can because we should try to leave less trash for future generations.

2. Get involved in your community.  Don't complain when you refuse to involve yourself in your local community.  This doesn't mean just vote and forget about it. Get involved in your local school, government, etc....

3. Start viewing children as a gift rather than a right.  We have a million children in foster care.  According to my last check (and I'll admit it has been a while since I checked) only 30% percent of the non custodial parent pays child support.

4. Get involved in your health care and health care for others.  If we don't find away to ensure our health care for the future we will reopen ourselves to diseases that will severly affect us in the future just like AIDS does now.

Thanks for listening.

  • All excellent points!

  • I *completely* agree with your post-- let's focus on things that matter! However, I do think "common sense" is kind of a matter of opinion. Plenty of things seem obvious or clear to me, but to other people they just don't work that way. I think there are very few universal truths upon which we all can agree, so I think it's important to remember that everyone is usually working from within their own vision of "common sense." Great post! I look forward to reading more!
